Guardsmen overrun at the Border

Posted on January 5, 2007

I really can’t say much more than the obvious already pointed out by so many on this. If we are going to have the Guard help guard the border we should give them weapons to defend themselves. The border problem is beyond ridiculous and dangerous and this is just one incident that illustrates how toothless the current politically correct policies are.

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

Texas Fred (who alerted me to this first):

That oath some folks took, that part about ”to defend against all enemies” says “both foreign AND domestic” and I am becoming firmly convinced that our BIGGEST enemy may very well be WITHIN…

Dan Riehl:

And if you need a better example of an alleged super power so hobbled by political correctness and weak political leadership that it can hardly protect itself, let alone wage a war - you may be waiting a long time for better than this.

Allahpundit:

If Bush thinks he has problems with his base on immigration now, wait and see what happens next time when a few of these lowlifes spring an ambush and put a bullet in some Guardsman’s head. Henry Waxman will gain a constituency overnight that he’s scarcely dreamed of.

I think its entirely way past time for a wall. The next time it could be worse. Here is a perfect example of how easy it is for a terrorist to get into the country via our broken borders.

Oak Leaf warned about this a long time ago.

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller:

THE single most important obligation of a government, ANY government, is to uphold and protect the sovereignty of the nation that they’re elected to govern.

I think it’s abundantly clear that our current junta in DC have failed miserably in that respect, that they do no respect their oaths and that they are unfit for command in every respect.

    Worth mentioning:

The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident….The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.

Also, the Guardsmen don’t necessarily need to be armed, but it is pretty silly to have them manning a post without the accompaniment of armed officers.
