CNSNews.com) - A conservative advocacy group is urging its supporters to cancel their policies with Progressive Insurance, after Peter Lewis, the company’s chairman, reportedly gave $8.5 million to the American Civil Liberties Union. The multi-million dollar donation will help the ACLU advance its liberal agenda, including its “war on Christmas,” the American Family Association warned. In an email message, AFA Founder and Chairman Don Wildmon urged his supporters to “sign a letter to Chairman Lewis, letting him know” that his donation to the ACLU is prompting conservatives to cancel their insurance policies. The AFA recently announced that it was ending its boycott of Target stores, after the retailer promised to use the word “Christmas” in its advertising and in-store promotions.

Hmmmm…I guess thats why the call it “Progressive” Insurance? You can bet this donation will go towards protecting civil liberties such as, defending NAMBLA, and defending America’s enemies.

I don’t get the whole NAMBLA obsession, to be honest. An action is either Constitutional or it isn’t. Doesn’t matter who’s speaking, be it a Nazi or a Klansman or a pedophile, they have a right to speak and I do not fault the ACLU one iota for defending that right. Speech does not have to be pretty, or true, or one step above pure unadulterated evil. It simply has to be free. I don’t care how virulent a pro-pederasty pamphlet is or how many people someone rapes and/or murders while carrying it around; there is no idea so profane that it cannot be expressed.

If you disagree, then you should seriously examine your commitment to freedom and democracy.

Doesn’t the name “Progressive” kind of give that away?

scarshapedstar: The problem with the ACLU’s interpretation of “freedom of speech”, along with other leftist groups, constitutes treason. The ACLU supports Dems’ right to call Bush a liar, which is fair. They have that right. Then they turn around and support radio talk show host Randi Rhodes public call for the assasination of President Bush. (I hope I don’t have to tell you that is illegal, and considered treason.) What most libs also don’t seem to understand is that “adhering to the enemy” does not only mean giving in to their demands. Making statements like most of what the left has been spewing since 2000 has made the war in Iraq last much longer than it had too, and gave terrorists all the incentive to keep attacking. That is treason. There is such a thing as the abuse of freedom of speech. This is not a free country in the sense that liberals would like it to be, nor was it ever intended that way. This is not a democracy, run by the people, a most inefficient system of government. It is a Republic, governed by elected officials. Free speech does not include treason.

    Personally I go with USAA.

Damn, I have progressive, and they give me the best rates around here.

Rest asured, I will cancel my multi-car policy.

Progressive is undoubtly the most corrupt insurance company that I have ever say. A 20 year old who made a left hand turn and ran into the front of my vehicle tried to lie out being at fault. It took 13 months to get a settlement in my favor from these scumbags. I run them down every chance I get. I have nothing but disrespect for these moonbats. Now I am really teed off.

And I thought only republicans knew how to run a business. I guess abortions, godless schools, and activist courts are good for business. Go figure.

Thanks for the info - I had no idea!!

  12. scarshapedstar on December 14th, 2005 3:00 am

Okay, so that’s a grand total of one possibly-illegal (Given that the “assassination order” referred only to a “spoiled child”, somehow I suspect there isn’t much of a case for treason, unless you guys really have a pretty low opinion of the President. I would love to hear this actually brought to court. What’s next, jail time for threatening cokeheads afraid to ride horses? How low can we go? I’d love to find out.) incident the ACLU defends. Treason, treason, treason, that’s all I keep seeing, and it’s all because that annoying Randi mouthed off? I hate to break it to you, but the American public considers Plamegate a much bigger threat.

And there’s still no explanation for why every post mentions NAMBLA. The ACLU has represented NAMBLA, the KKK, neo-nazis, Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell, Satan (sort of) and countless others I disagree with. I don’t fault them for any of it, because somebody’s got to do it. Maybe I understand this better than most right-wingers since my dad is a criminal defense attorney. I don’t let “ickiness” cloud my judgment about what is and isn’t allowed in the Land of the Free. Unless someone is shouting “fire!” in a crowded theater or shouting “bomb!” in an airport, any attempt to silence them will be met with nothing but contempt from me.

“Unless someone is shouting “fire!” in a crowded theater or shouting “bomb!” in an airport, any attempt to silence them will be met with nothing but contempt from me.”

But in so many ACLU funded cases, free speech IS what is being silenced. No prayer by students at an assembly, no writing anything “religious” on my piece of artwork, no voluntary prayer on school property. These and hundreds more showcase what the ACLU is currently all about.

Even looking at their Web site shows us what’s important to them:

CIA Stonewalls on Kidnapping, Detention Documents
(Make sure we don’t hurt our prisoners roughly.)

Supreme Court Hears Reproductive Freedom Case
(No one should put any limits on abortion whatsoever.)

    Reform the Patriot Act
(Our freedom to speech is more important than our security.)

Now, I don’t disagree with everything the ACLU fights for, just about 75-80%. But a good portion of their efforts go to attack the Christian beliefs that founded this nation, so I feel secure in my belief that America would be better off without the ACLU. The ACLJ is the new ACLU.

Aren’t you tired of scaring yourselves silly with all this nonsense–wake-up! WWJD?
Why don’t you put more effort into running your own lives than trying to run other peoples. I am not a Christian and I don’t want you interfering with my rights.

  15. Phil on January 4th, 2006 7:57 pm

Funny that any time a Christian speaks up about an issue like abortion, child molestation, economics, education, or any other moral or ethical issue they are accused of trying to force others to accept their religious beliefs. These are not moral and ethical positions which are exclusive only to Christians. 90% of Americans and virtually all of the worlds do not disagree on these moral and ethical issues.

Everyone in this country should support businesses and charities they believe in. With the web, getting background information on a company is much easier than before. Now what the companies you support are doing-what their agenda is. I’m switching my policy today, and letting Progressive know why. Whether it’s Walmart, Target, JCPenny, Kohls, or Progressive-find out what they’re up to. Support small business (whom you know) where possible and always buy American when you can.

  17. Joe on August 26th, 2006 5:07 pm

I have had it with progressive insurance. I used to be an insured until I heard about the donation they made. I canceled my policy and wrote a letter to their chairman explaining why. The coward never even had the decency to write back defending his actions.
I work for a small collision repair shop (most shops are small and are privately owned small business’s). Let me start out by saying that Washington State has a very weak insurance commissioner. The insurance commissioner is the one who dictates the rules and if progressive is in bed with them (so to speak) then your car is not getting the repair that you are paying for. You see, Insurance companies are trying to be able to own and operate their own body shops. I don’t know about you but with safety in mind, I don’t want insurance companies fixing my car. Their only interest is turning a profit and making money. That means that cars won’t be fixed back to pre loss condition. They will use inferior parts and techniques. Paint won’t match as nice, and overall your car will be worthless. I see this day in and day out. The insurance companies have deep pockets and have a great influence up on Capitol Hill. The insurance companies dictate how your car should be repaired and with what parts. Lets get one thing straight here. Insurance companies don’t work on cars and they aren’t trained to either. Collision repair shops are trained and are the professionals when it comes to vehicle repair. When collision repair shops repair your car they want to use OEM parts and use techniques and processes that will not only make your car safe but back to pre-loss condition or better. We want you to be happy and safe. If we repair a car and it’s not safe you could turn around and basically own us. For this reason it is important for the body shops to not only perform a nice clean repair with safety in mind but also have you happy as a customer. That is how we make money, with your referrals. Contrary to what people might believe, Collision repair shops don’t make a lot of gross profit. Most of the money is for overhead and goes right back into the business. Insurance companies on the other hand are making money hand over fist with their dictating on what to fix and what parts to use. When Progressive insurance sends out one of their adjusters they will leave stuff off the estimate on purpose hoping you will cash the check and not get the vehicle repaired. By doing this they save money. I know this because I have spoken with some of their rookie adjusters who have expressed this to me. Those actions are illegal and morally wrong just like their Chairman. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I will write more later on how Progressive Insurance is also trying to rip off the Collision repair facilities. One more note before I sign off…In the State of Washington you are entitled to take your car to whatever facility you like. Most insurance companies try to muscle you saying that they won’t warranty the work done if it is not done at a shop that the insurance company recommends. What the insurance companies are doing is illegal and a flat out lie. You can stop all this as a consumer by stepping up to the plate and doing something about it. Write your insurance commissioner, express your concerns with him/her also write your insurance company doing the same. Don’t let them get away with what they are doing anymore. Insurance companies are making billions off your ignorance (meant in a nice way). If this isn’t a good reason to cancel your policy with progressive then look more into it, do some research, ask a collision repair facility what they think of Progressive Insurance, I think you will find that my opinion is more fact then anything else. Thanks for reading this. Joe S.

I just came across this site and had to send something in. Why would
Progressive wish to donate to the ACLU when they are in a racial
discrimination suit?? What a nice cover that seems to be. Progressive
is so very proud of their Core Values and that we should ‘treat others
as you would like to be treated’, however they don’t practice what they
preach. We are scheduled for trail in June of 07, please spread the
    word!!!
