ACLU Wages War On Recruiters - Again

Posted on September 24, 2005

Are there no limits to the lengths that they will go to ensure the degradation of our Armed Forces? Apparently not. The NYCLU has announced a campaign to combat military recruiting in schools.

Lets first start by explaining the alternatives to the current recruiting practices.

If military recruiters were to not be permitted to contact students in school and in their homes, a significant drop in the numbers of volunteer recruits would happen. And to secure this nation, we must at minimum replace those who are retiring from military service or elect to not re-enlist. And under these conditions, it would be made necessary to draft recruits from the Selective Service rolls through lottery.

Under a draft situation, regardless if you want to serve or not, you will be compelled to serve. As a former soldier, I will say that I would much rather have my life and the lives of my fellow soldiers in the hands of an all volunteer service than a conscripted one.

Conscripted soldiers are less effective as compared to a professional soldier. Conscripts become what everyone doesn’t want, bullet catchers. And this is the sad truth.

By messing with the recruiting practices, the ACLU and their other activist cohorts, are advocating that we be reduced to force service out of all young men. Forcing them into a role where they are more likely to lose their lives.

By leaving a choice to the prospective recruit, he then has a chance to ask himself if this is what HE wants to do. If he so chooses, he will enter the service as a more effective weapon for the United States. (The use of the pronoun he is intentional due to the fact that under current law, only males are required to register for Selective Service. In the event of a forced draft, female recruits would still be volunteers unlike their male counterparts.)

Isn’t it odd that the ACLU sees a 13 year old responsible enough to make choices as to whether or not to have sex, with whom to have sex, under what conditions to have sex, deal with the consequences of having sex, use drugs, drink alcohol, and commit other criminal acts, but they see a 17 or 18 year old high school student as being incapable of deciding upon entering military service?

If left to them, a 13 year old girl who has gotten herself into a family way would be able to walk into any abortion on demand clinic and order up a procedure without consulting her parents as if she were ordering a Big Mac. But yet, a military recruiter can’t address an assembly of high school juniors and seniors to explain some of the benefits afforded to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines in exchange for their commitment to our nation because they are not mature enough to make decisions such as these. How hypocritical.

Here is what it comes down to folks, they are attaching themselves to the Cindy “the media whore” Sheehan bandwagon. Taking advantage of the publicity that she has stirred up to follow one of their founders’ ambitions.

“I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself… I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”

Roger Baldwin Co-Founder of the ACLU

This nation has a responsibility to protect its citizens. And this can only be done by maintaining an effective military to either combat or dissuade prospective enemies. By having the strongest, best equipped, all volunteer force on the planet, the United States is the most feared instrument of war. And by having this reputation, we are safer. If we must digress into a nation which must draft unwilling people to serve, we will have a less effective fighting force.

By eliminating the ability for military recruiters from contacting high school and college students, the ACLU are, in my opinion, aiding the enemies of this nation. And by doing so, puts every person in this nation at risk.

And as a side recrimination, what will happen to the under privileged who cannot afford to go on to college? Those enlistment bonuses and the GI Bill which pays for so many to attend college would not be there for most. Because why should the government pay for these benefits when they can get their recruits by drawing a number.

Now ask yourself, do you want that?

Gribbit, I have to say that this was one of your finest posts. Well written and to the point!
Anyone presently or former military would see your point easily.

  2. Jay on September 24th, 2005 8:28 pm

The military is the true defender of our liberties, the ACLU fails to see this too.

  3. Pete Moss on September 24th, 2005 9:58 pm

The military is never used for unjust goals. Schools are prefect locations for gathering new lambs to send to slaughter.

  4. Ogre on September 24th, 2005 10:45 pm

Pete Moss, do you have anything intelligent to say?

  5. Gribbit on September 24th, 2005 10:52 pm

Jay… you alerted me for a non-linking POS? I’m disappointed in you.

    Pete… SHUT THE HELL UP

Pete, you are letting your tendency to be politically correct interfere with your intellect. Schools are also perfect locations for indoctrination, unrest, burning buildings, shouting down conservative speakers and harboring nitwits. Hmmm, maybe that’s why you support this ACLU action come to think of it.

Pete, with malice toward none and charity to all, may your draft lottery number be “1.”

Pete’s a weenie. But what do you expect? they’re all cowards–these commie peaceniks. Cowardly hateful horrible reflections of narcissistic personality disorder…and big proponents of “cut and run”.

  9. Jay on September 24th, 2005 11:58 pm

Just put it this way Pete, no recruiting…you’ll see a draft.

    “Political correctness” and “intellect”.

Seems one cancels out the other. Pete is a coward AND an idiot.

But see there lies the Crux! they don’t want the average people educated, they don’t want the average person to be able to afford a better education or a better way of life. If Communism is their goal, isn’t it based on a pyramidical ideal that the 60% of the populace are merely a working class, with a bare handfull as the ruling authority?

For them to stop recruiters is a win-win situation for them!

And a lose lose for the rest of us.

Pete - the police are sometimes used for unjust goals.

There are people (here, I think) that think the ACLU works for some unjust goals.

If that is the only criteria you are going to apply, there’s not going to be much recruiting anywhere, is there?

Good Post… But if that’s the best the looney tune lefties can do, I wouldn’t sweat it.

I’ve been deluged with a “Gaffa” virus all week. And endless stream of Michael Moore agitprop, all couched in rational-sounding speech.

That’s the worst kind of moonbat, fortunately in short supply.

The Founders got it right, the first time, i.e:

    1. Show up for militia drill or you don’t get to vote.

    2. Volunteers only, for foreign wars.

I whole heartedly agree with Jay. The ACLU want the draft to come back. It would be a good thing, then every able bodied male could serve 2 years or go to Canada.
