September 11th Remembered

For those who don’t know, I’m a Staff Seargent (E-5) in active duty Air Force. Back in 2001 I was an Airman First Class (E-3). I got orders, and was deployed to Kuwait.
It was actually pretty nice at the base I got stationed at. Our particular tent had been subdivided by past deployers with plywood divisions, and a permanent wooden floor. We actually had plywood walls dividing our bedrooms for privacy. We had cable television in each tent.
Every Sunday our chow hall had steak and shrimp, and Hagen Daaz ice cream. I would wake up and walk the sands to an air conditioned trailor where I did my job, supplying people with uniform gear, and office supplies.
I actually gained weight on this deployment. Despite the horror stories I had heard about the heat being like a hairdryer blowing in your face, it wasn’t near as humid as Tampa where my permanant duty location was. In short, it was actually not a bad place to be deployed.
I remember September 11th well. Sitting in my air conditioned trailor we were always tuned in to the news. I don’t remember what channel, but I watched as the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center. I remember thinking, ” what a terrible accident.” But then, it wasn’t very long before I watched live as the second plane crashed into the towers, and my thoughts were much different. They were more like a panic attack of, “holy ____ , the ____ just hit the fan!”
Our little chapel in the dessert that was used to a small crowd suddenly filled up. I watched the world change before my eyes. The entire world had a common enemy, and united. Our security on the base locked up tight! The world had changed in the blink of an eye.
I was not very politcally aware at that time. Politics were not really interesting at all to me. But I remember watching partisan politics disolve, and America unite. I remember watching president Bush speak the voice of America. I remember America uniting. It felt good!
Now, four years later I remember watching parisan politics re-emerge. I watch the ACLU defend the enemy. I watch catastrophies like Katrina turn into blame games. I’ve watched countries cave in to the fear of terrorism. I’ve watched the world divide where it once was united, and it scares me.
There is a good and evil, and it can be felt deep within. Everyone knows in their heart that freedom is on the side of good, but it seems that greed and power have blinded too many, and political correctness has become a stumbling block to our war against evil.
I pray every night for the world to wake up! And I will say it now, don’t underestimate prayer. This is a spiritual war just as much as it is a physical one. Prayer is THE most powerful weapon we have in this war against pure evil. To those on the far left sympathizing with the enemy….choose sides or shut up. To those who believe in freedom I ask you to pray. Pray America can wake up from the politically correct crap the left are shoving down our throats. Pray that we can once again disolve our political differences and unite. Pray that freedom and liberty will prevail over terror, fear, and political correctness. Its time to wake up America.

I will NEVER forget!
Jay, your good, you already answered my Question Of The Week, but I hope you’ll stop by anyway. I also posted on Freedom Fest, “Why Keep Going”. Not to long ago I told you I would see Adrian Cronauer (Good Morning Vietnam) there and ask what he thought of the ACLU. He said OH, the American Communist Legal Union.
On the morning of 9/11/01 I was reading the London Telegraph on line. They posted a story about the World Trade Center being hit by a jet liner. I thought it was some kind of FEMA drill. (Most mornings the TV and short wave would have been on, for some reason not that morning)The article was so well done it was like a new version of War Of The Worlds, I was really into it. I heard the phone and I knew my wife answered it. I heard her tell someone I was on the computer, then she handed me the phone. I said hello and my Step Daughter yelled “are you watching this sxxt!?”I looked back at the computer and the screen changed just as she said,”my God the second tower has been hit”. You ever wake up to find part of your body is numb? Thats how I felt all over. For a long time I had expected a terrorist attack to take place on U.S. soil, but I hadn’t expected anything this big. I think it woke our country up to the fact that we’re not invincible,it united us for a while.Now I think the country has fallen back to sleep. I’m afraid there will be another rude awaking, I pray I’m wrong.

I have NEVER forgotten. In fact, I’m still PISSED OFF about it and I STILL want some terrorist heads on a platter!!!
In Judaism, we have a prayer that we say for the dead:
“Blessed is the Judger of Truth”
G-d bless America. G-d bless the men and women of our great and mighty Armed Forced. G-d bless our fire fighters, police men and women, and emergency workers. G-d bless all our fallen heroes. May G-d give us the courage and foresight to continue the fight for freedom, democracy, peace, and our way of life. Let us never stop fighting until all evil is eradicated and the job is done.

It’s a day none of us will ever forget for sure. Since I made my last comment here (#7) I have been reminded of the fact that we have some friends whose son was born or 9/11/01. I’m sure he will be reminded of the attack often throughout his life.
